We are given clear instruction to be brave and to dig deep, in order to completely give ourselves to this simple program, as many other have done before us.

To do so we need be determined and willing to become able to become;

  • Absolutely honest
  • Fearless
  • Thorough
  • Open-minded and unbiased

To do this we need the help of others and our Higher Power.

Outlines the certain and secure steps that we took.

We are encouraged to make spiritual progress, rather than to seek spiritual perfection.

The three pertinent ideas, carry us to Step Three.

We have to be convinced that any life run on self-will can hardly be a success.

Using the metaphor of the actor running the whole show, our egotistical controlling nature is revealed, fuelled by delusion, resentment, blame and self-pity.

We recognise that our troubles are basically of our own making. If we are to take responsibility for them, then we have to be able to recruit God’s help. There is no alternative.

The Step 3 Promise is followed by the Third Step Prayer, and we are encouraged to take this step with another understanding person.
